In Hebrew, the word "abadon" signifies destruction. In the bible, Abbadon is the angel of the bottomless pit, and the king of the locusts who are to torment Man in the Great Tribulation (see Manticore).
"And they had as king over them the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, but in Greek he has the name Apollyon."
