Suzaku is the Japanese pronunciation for the Vermillion Bird (Kanji: 朱雀; Chinese pinyin: zhū què), which is one of the Four Symbols (mythological beasts) in Chinese astronomy. It represents Summer and Fire, and as acts as Guardian of the South. It is frequently mistaken for the Phoenix because of its similarities.
