Pandemonium
A term coined by Milton for his 1667 classic Paradise Lost.
Pandemonium is Satan's capital. Translated literally, "Pan" is Greek for "All" and "Daemonium", Latin for "Demon".
Pandemonium, the "Place for All Demons", where Satan's cohort assemble and hold council, was created after he and his legions were cast down from heaven when they lost the war against the Most High whom he thought his equal.
In modern context, the word when uncapitalised, i.e. "pandemonium", is now used to describe tumult or a very noisy place. However, in Final Fantasy II (and subsequently, Final Fantasy IX), the word reflects its original meaning as it depicts the castle of Pandemonium (that was once castle Paramekia) as a hellish place infested with beastly denizens.
